A winter of grey has finally made way for some white. Mother Nature decided to provide us with some winter weather after all, which has been followed by-wait for it-sun!
We are fairly well prepared for winter weather. The truck is fitted with studded tires and we have a plow on one of the ATVs. We even have a sled to retrieve our banana box should it be necessary. Of course, we already have groceries for the whole winter and live off grid, so there is no last minute stocking up or need to prepare for a power outage as a storm moves in.
One of the first tasks after a good snowfall is to clear the panels to ensure we don’t miss any opportunity to absorb some rays. This week though, we had an extra task as mom was visiting, so we ventured out north to see how she as faring. She wasn’t alone, as a seal had sought refuge in her yard.
The boys now have snow up past their bellies. Indy isn’t too disappointed, but Jax just tip toes in his little brother’s pawprints.
Meanwhile, overnight, the ice finally moved in and a much different view greeted us this morning. As the day went on, our view to the south went from half water and half ice to almost completely ice. Although the weather has turned colder, the cottage is actually more comfortable much of the time thanks to all the south facing windows.
I’d love to tell you about our adventures snowshoeing, and if the snow actually sticks around, maybe we will get there yet. In the meantime, all four of us are going to relish every little bit of sun that comes our way, the dogs by basking in it and us by enjoying the opportunity to play with my ever-growing collection of kitchen gadgets.
