The seals have arrived

There is limited wildlife on Pictou Island. We have a plethora of rabbits and too many coyotes (which is any number above zero). Otherwise, we have blue heron and eagles, and an ocean full of many things, including more sharks than I would like to admit, and a lot of bass evidently. This summer there was a turtle, but the days of the pheasants and foxes are in the past I would say.
We also have a abundance of seals, which come ashore this time of year to have their pups. During the summer, the seals hang out not far from shore, watching our every move. They’re very nosy critters. This time of year, roles are reversed. We await their arrival and then once they’re here, we make the trek to witness this yearly occurrence. It is astounding to me, the seals that come so close in the summer, will quickly abandon their pups and return to the ocean at the mere sight of a human.

I love the energy on the island, how whatever little thing is going on is a big deal here. Whether it is the road being graded or the arrival of the seals, it's big news here. The excitement is palpable and we can make any little thing fun here.
