We're here! Ok, we've been here for a while. But the tree is down and I'm hoping it is time to settle in.
After a fall of prepping, the last boats have been hauled and it is now just us and 15 of our closest friends (along with eight furry puppies, three invisible cats, and some chickens). We placed our first grocery order yesterday, so it is starting to feel real. We can order a banana box worth of groceries every two weeks, weather dependent of course. That'll consist mainly of eggs, green peppers, celery, English muffins, a salad kit, tomatoes, that sort of thing. A far cry from what I would have considered a grocery order to get excited about a few years ago, if you had told me I'd be using precious room in a banana box for a salad kit, I'd bet my life against it!
We hauled the boat on December 14. My last day off was December 18 for some last minute groceries and attempts at Christmas prep. Rob went off on December 21 before the last boat was hauled, mainly because we were worried about our onions (which are heavy and a component of almost every meal we make) and wipes, which have taken on a whole new importance with the latest puppy addition. We had planned to go home for Christmas, but we ended up staying on account of the weather which meant we couldn't gaurantee a quick turnaround.
Anyone who knows us, knows that eating is one of our favourite things to do! This fall, I made a list of what I thought we would need for 22 weeks-almost half a year. Do you know how much toilet paper you would use in 5 months, cause I sure don't! We've tried to stockpile everything we could think of that would keep. We have two deep freezes full of mostly meat, along with a bar sized freezer and two fridge freezers.

I'm already thinking twice before I open a can of pop or a bag of crispers lol. This week I found panicking slightly as I finished several jars/bottles of food on the same day. But then I remind myself it is already almost January and we will be fine, we just may be eating something different than we would choose. Lunch today was a bbq ranch salad kit, leftover chicken breasts from last night, teriyaki noodles, and sugar cookies. (and cranberry sauce for me of course-my first purchase for our winter prep-a flat of cranberry sauce!). Tonight we are having T-bone's rib steaks and potatoes. I am trying to get better with leftovers and waste, two things I am not good at. We will see what our final meals on our last day before we can get on the Strait again.
It wasn't looking good, but our first banana box arrived today!

Of course, some of us have different priorities:

Stay tuned for my May post for how much I have left! Wish us luck!
